Description
This paper examines the transformative role of Financial Technology (FinTech) in advancing sustainable finance and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing across the BRICS economies (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa). As emerging markets navigate the dual pressures of rapid economic growth and climate change mitigation, FinTech emerges as a critical enabler of green capital allocation. By deploying advanced technologies—including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), big data analytics, and blockchain—FinTech platforms significantly lower informational barriers, optimize data-driven ESG scoring algorithms, and reduce transaction costs for renewable energy and sustainable development projects. Furthermore, digital financial tools enhance corporate ESG transparency, mitigating risks like greenwashing while democratizing access to green bonds and retail sustainable investment products. However, the study identifies critical bottlenecks, including regulatory fragmentation, data standardization deficits, and the carbon footprint of digital infrastructure itself. The findings suggest that while FinTech serves as a potent catalyst for sustainable transition, maximizing its potential requires cohesive, cross-border BRICS green taxonomies and robust regulatory frameworks.
