Description
The aim of this study was to identify expert opinions and consensus regarding food safety-related components within the One Health approach and to provide recommendations for evaluating food safety within a One Health framework. The study was conducted using a two-round Modified Delphi Consensus Method. The study group consisted of academic staff from the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Education, Veterinary Medicine, Health Sciences, Agriculture, Science, and Economics and Administrative Sciences at a public university in Türkiye. A total of 108 participants took part in the first Delphi round and 64 in the second round. Data were collected electronically using semi-structured forms and evaluated using the median, interquartile range (IQR), and consensus percentage. Consensus was defined as a median ≥4, IQR ≤1, and consensus percentage ≥80%. Within the scope of this study, Delphi items considered directly or closely related to food safety were examined through a secondary analysis. The Delphi process demonstrated consensus on the integrated consideration of various One Health components related to food safety. These components included human health and nutrition, zoonotic diseases and their epidemiology, the human-animal-plant-environment-ecosystem interface, sustainable food and water safety, environmental health and ecotoxicological risks, ocean health, and antimicrobial resistance. In addition, learning methods and assessment and evaluation methods for addressing food safety-related topics within the One Health approach were identified based on expert consensus, indicating their potential to contribute to innovative practices and new approaches in food safety education. In conclusion, this Delphi consensus provides a framework for addressing food safety multidimensionally within the One Health umbrella and for advancing food safety education in alignment with this approach.
