Description

In this study, the phytosynthesis of silver nanoparticles was carried out using the hydromethanolic extract of the fruit of the pumpkin plant (Cucurbita moschata), and their physicochemical characteristics were investigated using TEM, SEM, FT-IR, UV/Vis, and XRD techniques. The results of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that the average size of the obtained silver nanoparticles was approximately 38 nm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) also showed that the size of the silver nanoparticles ranged from 33 to 50 nm. The results of X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis indicated that the nanoparticles were spherical in shape, with a face-centered cubic (FCC) structure and a size of 32.8 nm. FT-IR spectroscopic analysis of the plant extract before and after nanoparticle synthesis revealed the presence of functional groups that may be involved in nanoparticle formation. The phytosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using C. moschata is an efficient, cost-effective, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly synthetic method and can serve as an alternative to conventional synthesis methods.
