Description
Valve springs are critical components of internal combustion engines that are subjected to cyclic loading during engine operation. Therefore, investigating their mechanical behavior is of considerable importance. In this study, the static behavior of the K4M engine valve spring was investigated using the finite element method (FEM). First, the geometry and dimensions of the actual spring were measured, and its three-dimensional model was developed using SolidWorks. The developed model was then transferred to the ANSYS Workbench environment for static structural analysis. The spring material was assumed to be SAE 6150 (50CrV4/51CrV4), and its mechanical behavior was evaluated under different compressive loads ranging from 150 to 250 N. The main parameters considered in the analysis were the maximum shear stress and maximum deformation, and the effects of increasing the applied load on these parameters were evaluated. The results showed that both the maximum shear stress and deformation increased with increasing compressive load. At a load of 250 N, the maximum deformation and maximum shear stress were approximately 24.83 mm and 259.54 MPa, respectively. The obtained results can be used to evaluate the mechanical performance and support the design and analysis of the K4M engine valve spring.
