Description
The development of efficient, sustainable, and recyclable heterogeneous catalysts for multicomponent reactions is of considerable importance in view point of green and modern organic synthesis. In this study, nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers (N-CNFs) were used as an efficient green catalyst for the Biginelli multicomponent reaction, providing a straightforward and environmentally friendly approach to synthesizing dihydropyrimidinone derivatives. The N-doped carbon nanofibers were prepared and characterized using appropriate spectroscopic and microscopic techniques, and their catalytic activity was evaluated in the condensation of aldehydes, β-ketoesters, and urea derivatives. The catalytic system afforded the desired products in good to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions. The enhanced catalytic performance of the N-CNFs can be attributed to the presence of nitrogen-containing surface functionalities, which provide catalytically active sites and facilitate the activation of the reaction components. Furthermore, the heterogeneous nature of the catalyst enables its facile separation from the reaction mixture and potential reuse in subsequent reaction cycles.
